A Sewing Day

Haven't had one in quite awhile.
Lola came over on Thursday and we played around a bit.
I got another of scrappy star done from Terry's last sew-a-long.

And nope, I did not know she was busy making a gray quilt at the time--it just turned out that way. I really am running out of colors to do these in. Time to start that really scrappy one.
I also got the first border on my nephew's quilt. Thought I would whip through the second one, but now I am not sure if I like the second or not.
Don't have time for these indecisions.
So, that is my goal for the rest of the week.
Lola was busy teaching me how to make pillow cases the easy or was that the hard way.

Fortunately she left me a set of directions, because there was lots of rolling and turning and I may have forgotten a step or two
and of course you must always deal with Murphy who wants to sit right where you are working. He especially likes leaning up against the hot iron and freaking you out.

And yes, he does answer you when you talk to him. His favorite word is NO!
Hope everyone is safely tucked away warm and toasty in their sewing room.
This dreary weather is icky!!
Come on Mr. Sunshine!

Wiggle Strip #2

My first accomplishment of the month.
Strip number 2 in Terry's Sew-a-long.

Hmmm--what am I going to do next month? I think he needs another arm.
One of these days I need to figure out where to put a design wall. Because I have all of these new things that need to get designed.
Well, they are not super new--they are almost a month old. These goodies came from the quilt show. Really time is flying far too quick since it has been almost a month.

I got hooked on Lynette Anderson and Gail Pan when we lived in Australia and there is a vendor at the show each year that carries both of their goodies.
It is called the Christmas Shoppe and it is far too dangerous a place. Fortunately they are located in New Hampshire.
So, I have plenty to get busy on as well as finishing things that need to be finished.
We won't get into that--I think I need therapy!!!
This is all that is going on in the sewing room this morning while we do school:

But, that will change later. It must!!!!
Hope you are all having a great Monday!

Finished On Time

Just posting late!!!
Better than the other way around I suppose.
One of these days I will get it all together--really!!!
At least that is my goal.
So here is my wool creation for Di's 2013 Challenge:

I had not done any wool projects before so I was a little paranoid, but I am happy with the result and will probably do more when I am caught up with everything else.
Sometime in year 2023 I believe that may be.

It always seems that when I need to do one thing, everything else happens.
All things that I want or need to do, and so it was the way trying to finish this.
In the midst of dental appointments to fix a broken tooth, and our first adoption event of the year for the Humane Society, there appeared the 2013 Mid Atlantic Quilt Show!
I went with these two partners in crime:

Lola and Diana
Mostly I will send you to Lola's blog because the battery died on my camera very quickly and we seemed to be amazed by many of the same quilts.
She has the big version of this:

I am not sure why this thing rotated itself, but I cannot seem to fix it.
Anyway you can still see the amazing quilting that is done on it.
In my dreams, I will one day be able to do this.

This one has inspired me:

To make a quilt from all of the findings that show up in my son's pockets on laundry day.
I usually keep a little tub on the dryer to collect them in, so now I think I really have to find a way to use them.
And on that note I really need to get busy because I am sure more things will come up at the end of the month to try to keep me from reaching my goals.
So, I will leave you with on more of my favorites and try to be back much sooner than normal.

Would Someone Please Return February Cause I Have Only Finished One Thing So Far

Short or not, it just does not seem possible that this month is almost over. I need a couple of more weeks please!!!!!
I have been somewhat productive in some areas considering that we all started out sick and achy. It just went on forever. We were going to give our awards banquet for Tae Kwon Do a pass because we just felt icky, but at the last minute we all got decked out,

and had a really good time. And to my total amazement we got called to the front of the room to receive this:

and yeah--they spelled our name wrong, but doesn't everyone????
I thought it was pretty cool. Of course this year has started off with one sick Ihnen after the other so, we have not been there in total family mode but I think it is getting better.
We also took a trip over to my mom's house a couple hours west of here because she was not feeling well. Of course we dragged her out of the house also and did some antiquing and fabric-ing (is that a word?) and lunching.
I scored a few bits, but I will start with a couple for now.
There is this awesome quilt store in Midlothian called Quilters Corner and I get a little carried away since we never really go that often.
I fell in love with these two fabrics:

This one is a bad pciture, but I love the little hedgehog. What is not to love about a purple hedgehog???

and I got this free, because I spent so much money. Yep, there will be more pictures in the future.

But for now, ta da!!!! I have finished February's strip for Terry's Sew Along in FEBRUARY!!!!
An amazing feat really!!!!

And for now, I will say bye bye because I have to finish Di's Challenge in the next week!
Wish me luck and I hope everyone is happily meeting their goals or better yet just happily sewing with no stress whatsoever!!!!

Snow and Sew

You are supposed to be doing English!!!!
But Mom!!!!
School got interrupted today for sure!
But I am just as big a kid, because I was just as easily distracted.

It sounds so nice and quiet out there. Mutes the sound of the 27 fender benders that were reported in our town alone!! Stay home everyone and enjoy.
And sew!!
I have managed to get a little bit done. The whole family has been sick for the last two weeks, so it has been a slow sew! I finished another scrappy star block from Terry's Treasures last SAL and I have a pile started for another one and a pile started for her current SAL.

I have also started working on this wool felt project for Di's 2013 Challenge. New things are good for you! This is my first wool project. Well unless you count the jacket I made about 30 years ago. Last time I ever tried to match plaids on a piece of clothing since I wasn't planning on ever getting rid of my "curious" kitties.

So, I was wishing we would get snowed in so that I could just stay in and stare out the window and sew. No such luck--the sun is coming out tomorrow and the warm temperatures are going to start again. Wait, you can sew quite nicely when the sun is shining!!!
OK, no excuses--I must sew!
Hope everyone is tucked inside and safe if you are in this winter storm.

Finishes--Woo Hoo!!

Even though I didn't sign up for Chooky Blues SAL, I did get caught up in the thread catcher frenzy. I even ordered the books just in case things catch my eye, but failure to finish a project around here is always an option and I don't think I could handle being dumped.
So, my first thread catcher is not really a thread catcher--it is for my sweet DH and I believe it will be call a crud catcher.

And I think it fits nicely into the airplane creating area.
I made two more--one for me and one for my mom and realized when I was working on my mom's that it would be nice to have a thread catcher because I didn't like the top stitching and had to do some serious unpicking.

And no--that is not a big old mess back in the background, it is perfectly organized piles of projects that I need to get busy on. Now I just need to perfectly organize them into a tub or something. I'll get there.
It is a super dreary day out there and DH is feeling yucky, so it maybe a good day to get a move on with the pile.
Hope you are having a creative and fun weekend.

Same Word, New Year

I was not too successful with my organzational plan last year, so here we go again!!!

So, first off some shopping

And some list making

 and some new tools

created by the boy. His very first woodworking project.
I refused to watch him using the router.

Definitely needed something for the little rulers that hide under things.

So, I have one project pretty much done.
A nice shiny (very full) shelf in the laundry closet

and a pretty good dent made in the project to do list

Got some prep work done here and even managed to pack up a cat.

So, now it is time to follow Murphy's lead and go to sleep.
Hopefully tomorrow some of those piles will start becoming projects on their way to being finished.
