Storms and Stars

The house is starting to make those creaky noises that it does when the wind is blowing.
I do hope everyone is staying safe--tucked away in their homes doing some sewing.
I thought since I still have power, I should hurry up and show my scrappy star blocks.
It has been busy around here, but I have finally gotten them done.
Need to start getting ready for next month.
Wow--time is flying far too quickly.
So here there are:

I am running out of colors, so this one may be a small quilt and then I will get on to doing a really scrappy one. In the mean time I also need to finish some Christmas presents.
This one is actually all in one piece:

Now for borders and finishing!!!
Still have one more full size one to try to get done before Christmas. Time needs to slow down a bit I think.
So, off I go to teach some trig.
Everyone stay safe and dry if you are in the East and warm if you are getting the snow.

Blocks and Cuties

Seem to be spinning around here since school is back in session, but I have managed to get my scrappy star blocks done.

Purple of course, and...

... green.
These are so much fun, I just hope I don't run out of colors.
Still working on "The" quilt.
Hopefully I will be able to hold it up in one piece for you soon.
Besides, English,Government,Physics and
Trigonometry

We have been doing our

thing for the Humane Society. These cuties are at the PetsMart where we work on Tuesday afternoon.

A little Darrin burrito and not to be out cuted...

...Peppermint Patty. Hard to get her to sit still long enough to get a photo.
I would love to get a good pic of her Groucho Marx mustache over her eye, but hopefully she will have been adopted before I get another chance next Tuesday.
Well, back to English class--hope everyone is having a great Thursday!!!!

September is here!!!

But the nice cool weather is not:

Fall is definitely on my mind.  Made a few purchases to help the yum factor of the fall season.

I sadly have gotten a few more since then and have found a few dozen things that I want to do. Like this yummy one in Love of Quilting:

and this lovely piece jumped into my cart:

Yep, there is purple in there.
Of course.
And Lola came to play a couple of weeks ago and she is readier (we will go with that poor grammar) than I am.  Look at her cute little stitchery.

I am still plugging along with what I am supposed to do. Made some evil boo boo on my black and white checkerboard strips. Thought I might just rip my hair out, but I finally changed tactics and went for something easier.
So these little lovelies that are all about a 1/2 inch too long:

turned into this nice checked flag fabric that I can chop to the exact size, so hopefully I will be done with it real soon and can get on to other things.

So, lots to finish and even more on my wish list. What am I doing sitting here.
Hope everyone has a nice holiday if you are in the states and a extra special weekend if you are not.

What Does Your Cat Read?

Is there a suggested reading lists for cat?

I think CeCe has read this one more than once because she has mastered the fine art of catnapping.
And Squeaks.

What else would a diva read??
Now Murphy is a different story. I have not seen him pick a book very often.
He seems to prefer the electronic media.

I am sure he is learning something or helping DH make some important decision.
Even Tonya gets in the act every once in awhile. I think she is dreaming she is a dragon flying over a steak house. I have such intellectual animals.

So, do your pets have a favorite?
Honest, not a single picture was staged--just captured.
Hope everyone had a happy Monday!

Time to Finish the Story

Or sort of expand on yesterday's gift show-off.
I really have some very sweet friends and they know me so well.
Remember the box that Di sent?
I love boxes.

Well, I have been remiss in showing off gifts from Lola
I really do love boxes.
I really love purple too.
Here is the one from Lola.

And I was running around showing DH the first thing that came out of Di's box.

Yes Di, I love cows and I love flags.
And here was the one from Lola.
You two didn't talk about this did you???

Look at those cute purple flip flops and excuse the weeds popping out of my lavender bush.
Now, Di gave me purple love birds.

Very, very sweet.
And Lola made me a purple cow.

.
With angel wings and all.
And Di gave me fat quarters.
And a purple zipper.
And Lola gave me fat quarters.
And they both gave me more.
I feel spoiled!!!
Oh, and I did put the zippers in the box.

I think I need to get busy and make some bags. I have lots of zippers now.
At least they have a pretty home now.
Thank you both for all of the goodies.

I Fell Off the Wagon

I believe I said I was not going to start anything new before I finished the quilt I was working on. I know, BUT Joy showed me this very fun sew along at Terry's Treasures and I decided I needed to play too.
I am addicted to scraps lately, so it called my name, none too softly.
And I have already finished my two for this month and can get right back to what I need to do.
So, this is what I have done so far:

I will control myself and only do two.
They are pretty addicting.
I also had more goodies from the mailman today.
Di sent me a sweet box full of birthday presents.
And I have to say getting late presents is pretty fun because it spreads the joy.
So, a quick peek, because this thing is taking forever to download tonight.
This was inside the box:

Bad angle, but it is a really cool box that has all kinds of goodies inside.
I am already trying to decide what sewing item is going to find a home in here.
Hmmmmmm????? Maybe zippers--that will make sense later.
I will show you all the goodies inside in my next post.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend, no matter what you are up to.

Getting There!!!

My gazillion tiny little squares are finally starting to look like they are supposed to.
Still have a ways to go, but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I am getting antsy to start something new.
Short attention span is kicking in big time.

This is one reason that I am getting impatient.
The nice mail lady brought me this yesterday:

Drool, drool, drool.
No idea what I am going to do with it yet, but I will get there.

I will get there as soon as I finish what I am already doing.
In my dreams!
Change is as good as a holiday????
Can't believe it is already August--need to get a move on.
Stay cool everyone!

Diners, Drive-ins, Dives and Doughnut Shops

We had visitors on Friday and Saturday. My SIL and her DH were here camping the modern way. My kind of roughing it! Take your air conditioning with you.

We had a fun time shopping and eating.
Yes lots of eating.
I don't think Guy Fieri has been here yet, but he should come and visit.

They're baked not fried--gotta  be good for you right????
They have a key lime one that is worth having to workout for hours to make up for it.
After that we sort of had a dive.

As you can see the weather was rolling in, and it was sooooo hot.
We did a bit of wandering around in the shops hoping to cool off, but a shop with a fan when it is 100 degrees really doesn't help much.
So, we decided to go EAT!!!
Guy has been here!

If you look up there on the wall to the right you can see his autographed photo.

This was our first time here, but we will go back.
Good food and ridiculously cheap.
I did cook last night really!!!!!
And I did a wee bit of sewing.
Hope you are all staying cool somehow.

Bye Bye June!!!

So, what have you guys done so far this summer???
Gotta check out those new giant marshmellows!!

Now I have been quite busy actually and some of it actually involves sewing.
I have turned into a Bonny Hunter wannabe I do believe.
Embarrassingly, Lola and I took a class with her about two years ago.
Well, not embarrassing for Lola because she is finished with hers, but it is for me.
Joy is on her second one--a Christmas one that I would love to get busy on as well.
But for now my Pineapple Blossoms are pretty much all in one piece.

Now, I just have to finish trimming up this pile of bits that will become the first border:

And just to make sure that I am not bored. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!
I have started her Story-time Stars for my nephew.
Christmas can take its time getting here please.

And more little bits that I have to get put together.

I don't think I quite have 180 four-patches done yet, but I am getting there.
There are more things in the background there that need finishing and a quilt that needs starting for my God-daughter, but for now I need to do laundry and probably water the garden and and and...
Everyone stay cool, cause baby it's HOT out there.

Finishes and Furry Ones

Since I am always complaining about having to rewash the bowl on my mixer before each use cause dust crawls in--I decided I would get to the mixer cover pattern that I have had for quite awhile. Course I will probably wash it out anyway, but it looks pretty.
It is a shame to tuck it under the cabinet now, but I still do not have room.
I am busy working on a few other things, but the first priority right now is getting the school year over. Hopefully we will be getting all of our end of the year testing done next week and the creativity can begin.
HOPEFULLY!!!!!
For now, here are some common scenes from the sewing room.

Sadly I can not join them in their napping--too much to do.
Hope everyone is having a great day!!!
